Summer Ballin'

Hey Everyone!

So it's the start of July... which means it's finally the start of SUMMER!!! What better way to get the party started than with an end of Sixth Form Summer Ball eh?

Yes, you guessed it, in this post I'm going to share with you what I wore to my leavers' ball...

Arguably to many girls, finding the perfect prom dress is like trying to find a four-leaf clover; many girls try so hard to find it, but some end up giving up and going for that dress that 'will do' (or in this case, the clover with three leaves with one split in half to make it look like four...). Other girls however are lucky, and find it straight away. My ball dress, I feel, was my four-leaf clover.

I was scrolling through the ASOS website not expecting to find anything I liked, but as soon as I saw this dress, I knew it was the one. Because my ball was at the beginning of July in the Museum Gardens in the centre of York, I wanted something that was pretty, yet elegant and classy at the same time. The floral embellishments on this dress are so vibrant, intricate and highly suited to the beautiful environment of the gardens in summer. The floaty pastel mint chiffon, paired with the dainty buttons on the back make the dress more delicate and elegant - exactly what I wanted for the occasion! I just had to have it.

I loved the fit of this dress and didn't need to have any alterations. The length is not too short or too long, so I didn't need to be worrying about my dress blowing up or tripping over it when boogying on the dance floor. The relatively high neck of the dress made me want to go for a quite simple curly up-do, which I had done at my local hairdressers.

Regarding accessories, I kept these to a minimum as I didn't want to detract any attention away from the gorgeous embellishments. Thus, I decided to wear a pair of cream heels and a plain pastel pink clutch.

When it came to makeup, I decided to just take a risk, experiment, and do it myself. I was too scared to get it professionally done as I wanted to go pretty natural. I'm not going to ramble on about every makeup product I used as I really am no expert and I know I'd be pretending to know what I'm talking about when I really don't... so I figured I'd post a few snaps instead...

MAC Lipstick - Angel

So that was my summer ball outfit! I had such a good time and it really was a perfect way to end an amazing two years at Sixth Form. I hope you've enjoyed reading this post and that you all found/find your four-leaf clover dress for any special summer occasion yet to come - I know that I will certainly be wearing mine again!!

I hope you're all having a lovely summer!

Speak soon,

Alex

Pastel Pink Perfection

Hey everyone! So the other week I was scrolling through the Missguided website and found this beauty... What can I say? It's got the faux fur lining, the silky suede fabric, and the pastel pink colour. It had my name written all over it, so of course, I had to buy it. As soon as I opened the package when it arrived, I snuggled myself into the super soft fabric and genuinely felt like a teddy bear. I've already had so many compliments on this beautiful jacket and I've only worn it twice! I can already tell it's going to be my Autumn/Winter staple. I was initially supposed to be looking for a practical coat for Winter, but given the option between practical or pastel? It's a no brainer ;) Let's just hope it doesn't rain! Aus Adventure: Welcome to Travel

Hello Everyone, I hope you’re all safe and well during these very strange times. I am currently living at Spot X Surf Camp on the East Coast of Australia during the COVID 19 pandemic. It’s a weird feeling being at the other side of the world during all of this madness, but I figured I would use this time to reflect on my Australian journey. I’m sure there are so many people so eager to travel when all of this is over, so I thought I’d return to my blog and write up a cheeky post reflecting on my first couple of weeks in Melbourne pre-lockdown. I always knew I wanted to work and travel in Australia, but I just had no idea where to even start with organising it, especially seeing as I knew I was travelling on my own (scary times). I remember googling ‘tours around Australia’ and it just felt like there were so many different things that popped up that all seemed to say the same thing, leading me to feel more lost with it all. I’ve done lots of travelling before, but I alwa...

Why Instagram is the worst app to be addicted to...

Hey Everyone! So today in the midst of essays, exams and revision, I figured I would write a post about the app that makes our thumbs sore from scrolling, the biggest form of procrastination yet, and the friend we all love but also hate. Yep, you've got it, I am going to put my hands in the air (or on the keyboard) and have a rant about Instagram. Firstly, I have an Instagram addiction. I have always been a lover of the ol' gram. I love capturing moments and making them look as pretty as possible, even if that does mean photos looking staged or unrealistic. I've always loved sharing memories with the world, liking my friends' photos, and even exploring the accounts of other creative people, and following them like I've known them my whole life. It honestly felt like I'd gained an award when Dr. Martens requested for one of my pictures to be posted on their official account. I was buzzing like a bee. However, recently I've found myself not enjoying Inst...
